JimmieLawrenceVaughan(borninMarch20,1951inDallas,Texas)isanAmericanbluesguitaristandsinger.HeistheolderbrotherofStevieRayVaughan.JimmieVaughan’sstylewasinfluencedbyFreddieKingwhogavehimpersonaladvice.Alsotwootherbluesguitarists,AlbertKingandB.B.King,wereimportantinfluences.Johnny“Guitar”Watsonwasanotherimportantearlyinfluence(JimmiesaysthatheandhisyoungerbrotherSteviestudiedJohnny“Guitar”Watsonmorethananyothersingleguitarist).JimmieVaughandevelopedhisownpersonalstylethatiseasilyrecognized.HeformedthebandTheFabulousThunderbirdswithsingerandharpistKimWilson,bassistKeithFergusson,anddrummerMikeBuck.(TheinitialFabulousThunderbirdsmemberswereallprotegesofAustin,Texasbluesclubowner,CliffordAntone.)Theband’sfirstfouralbums,releasedbetween1979and1983,arerankedamongthemostimportant‘whiteblues’recordings.Sadly,sincethoseearlyalbumsdidnotsellwell,thebandwasleftoutwithoutarecordingcontractforacoupleofyears(duringthetimeswhenJimmie’syoungerbrotherachievedpopularsuccess).TheFabulousThunderbirdsgotanewcontractin1986andmadeseveralalbumsthatfeaturedmorecommercialpop-musicsoundandproductionstyles.Jimmieleftthebandin1989andmadea“duoalbum”calledFamilyStylewithhisyoungerbrother,StevieRayVaughan.Beforethealbumwasreleased,SteviediedinahelicoptercrashinWisconsinonAugust27,1990.Thealbumwasreleasedafewdaysafterthetragicaccident(thelistedartistonthealbumwas“VaughanBrothers”).Thealbumwaslightblues-influencedrockwithJimmiesingingonseveraltracks.VaughanreleasedhisfirstsoloalbumStrangePleasurein1994.Thealbumcontainedasong“SixStringsDown”thatwasdedicatedtothememoryofhisbrother.Hehascontinuedhissolocareersincethen.Vaughan’ssoloalbumscontainmostlyblues-rockmaterialthathewriteshimself.In2001,Vaughanpaidaninstallmentonhis(andtheFabulousThunderbirds’)hugedebttoharmonicaswampblueswhenhecontributedguitartotheLazyLesteralbumBluesStopKnockin’.
