Milton"Bill"Finger(February8,1914–January18,1974)wasanAmericancomicstrip,comicbook,filmandtelevisionwriterwhowastheco-creator(withBobKane)oftheDCComicscharacterBatman.Despitemakingmajor(sometimes,signature)contributionsasaninnovativewriter,visionarymythos/worldbuilderandillustrationarchitect,Finger(andothercreatorsofhisera)wasoftenrelegatedtoghostwriterstatusonmanycomics—includingBatman,andtheoriginalGreenLantern,AlanScott.WhileKaneprivatelyadmittedina1980saudiointerviewwithhisautobiographerthatFingerwasresponsiblefor"50–75%ofallthecreativityinBatman,"fordecadeshepubliclydeniedFingerhadbeenanythingmorethanasubcontractorexecutingKane'sideas.Asaresult,FingerdiedinobscurityandpovertywhiletheBatmanbrand,andKane,amassedinternationalfameandwealth.Inthe2000s,FingerbiographerMarcTylerNobleman'sresearchuncoveredpreviouslyunknownheirs.AttheurgingofNobleman,theonlinecomicsfancommunityandothers,Finger'sgranddaughterrevivedthefighttorestorehislostlegacy,whichcontinuedforyears.In2015,DCComics'sparentcompanyconditionallyagreedtorecognizeFinger'sintellectualpropertyclaimasco-creatoroftheBatmancharactersandmythos,officiallyaddinghisname,goingforward,tothe"createdby"creditlineKanehadgottencontractuallyguaranteedin1939.
